Loudspeakers for Sale
Many people think that all you
have to do is put a speaker-driver in a box, apply a few basic rules
such as Ohm's
Law, and there you have a good sounding speaker system. In reality,
the situation is far more complex than that. Ohm's Law is too simple
an application when viewed against the real-world situation of speaker
phase and imaginary j-values as shown in the Heyser
Spiral. The following speakers, mostly made for my book, Speaker
Building 201 are here offered for sale. Important characteristics
of these speakers are that not only were high quality parts
used even in the least expensive systems, but that they were individually
tested in high-level professional anechoic measurement chambers.
This was done, in great part, alongside one of the world's foremost
loudspeaker audio engineers and theorists, Dr.
Joseph D'Appolito using computer based data acquisition technologies
called MLSSA and CLIO, along with advanced optimization software.
The pricing for these speakers below is for each speaker, you must
please double for cost for a pair.
Speakers made for the book:
The "Popcorn"
- These are the small two-way closed box system of dimensions:
10½" x 5½" x 8" housed in lacquer
finished custom 3/4" thick cherry veneered non-resonant braced
MDF cabinets (shown at the top and bottom
of the five speakers). Top grade parts, such as heavy duty gold-plated
terminals and an acoustic fourth-order crossover that uses polypropylene
capacitors, heavy gauge inductors and 5% precision resistors.
The drivers in the system, that is, the 1"
dome tweeter and 4"
shielded woofer, use Tang-Band's best PPM cone material and
rubber surround, impervious to humidity situations and normal
wear. An extremely clear and compact speaker for music or home
theater. If you are trying to assemble a complete 5.1 Dolby home
theater system, then you would need all five of the speakers shown
in the photo (at the center is the speaker below) plus the subwoofer
below. $225.
The Center Channel
- This is the speaker shown in
the center of the photo of the five speakers. The drivers,
the same as used in the "popcorn" above, are grouped
together in a tighter configuration than most home theater center
channel speakers to "image" better and give a more cohesive
sound. The center channel is were the voice and dialog is concentrated
in home theater, this speaker is specifically designed to make
the human voice very clear to understand. $235.
350 Watt Self- Powered Subwoofer
- This is the part of the system that creates the concentric circles
in your drink upon entrance of the T-Rex in the DVD version of
Jurassic Park. Shown in the photo in parts, the subwoofer is completely
assembled and ready to use. When used with small speakers such
as the "popcorn" above, it takes on all the bass chores
leaving the small speakers undamaged by any harmful low frequency
power surges. This subwoofer more than adequate power.$500.
Motorola 501 Home Theater Receiver
- The Motorola
501 is as all-in-one a home theater unit as has ever been
devised. combines a DCT2000 interactive digital cable receiver,
a DVD/CD/MP3 player and audio/video digital receiver with 5x100
watts per channel and an AM/FM stereo receivert. It delivers high
performance home entertainment while offering the convenience
of plug 'n' play installation. The DCP platform also provides
the gateway to video-on-demand movies and Internet access. An
NTSC decoder with digital adaptive comb filter upconverts all
composite-video signals to S-video with Dolby Digital, DTS, or
Dolby Pro Logic II 5.1-channel sound. Note - available only with
the purchase of the entire home theater speaker system above.
$250.
The "Gabriel"
- The labyrinth of a folded
horn loaded woofer combines a bass rich sound with
a ultrahigh efficiency horn tweeter to form a two-way speaker
that uses a minmum-phase first order crossover. Dimensions 29"
x 10" x 14½" and 1 watt produces a very efficient
SPL of 94 dB/1M/1W. This means even a low power amplifier can
produce a loud sound. The Gabriel uses two expensive Fostex drivers.
$400.

Hexagonal Bandpass
- A small three-way speaker with a built in bandpass subwoofer.
The rectangular bandpass subwoofer sits under a hexagonal closed
cabinet housing a carbon-fiber 3" midrange. On the top of
the hexagon sits a ribbon tweeter. These are experimental prototypes
in home built cabinets, but perform with powerful bass and very
clear sound. $125.
Seas Two-Way
- A pair of medium sized vented speakers using "Seas"
(Scandinavian brand) drivers, using their top of the line Excel
high end tweeters and one of their 6½" polypropylene
woofers. Enclosed in a pair of pine custom cabinets, finished
in a high gloss polymer. $225.
Monitors
- A pair of high-power commercial black monitor speakers which
can be used to mix and master recordings. Also useful as a pair

a two-way ported system with a 1" dome fabric tweeter and
an 8" treated cone woofer. $135.
Quad
ESL 57 electrostatics
- Long considered the ultimate speakers for clarity of midrange,
these original English Quad speakers have had a deep "makeover."
The crossovers were upgraded with the most modern Quad high-standard
crossovers and the treble screens were replaced. These electrostatics
are sought after by collectors for the purity of their sound,
which remains absolutely true to this day. Also available are
a Quad amplifier made by the company to work with the Quad's unusual
impedance load and a matching subwoofer (see below). $650.
"In my musical search
for Nirvana, I have owned various Maggies, Audiostatics, Martin
Logans and the rest of the planar/electrostatic gamut. I now have
had a pair of Quad ESL-57s for two years, a lifetime for ever changing
audiophiles, and have NEVER felt the need to have something else."

Quad High Frequency Electrostatic Panel
- A NEW separate treble panel for the Quad ESL-57 electrostatic

unusual Quad electrostatic impedance load. However, it works and
sounds fine with any speakers. Factory refurbished to original
standards, as good as new. $375.00
Push
Pull Subwoofer
- Custom made to sit under the Quad electrostatics, but sold separately.
Push-pull vented configuration using two 10" Bextrene cone
drivers. They produce excellent bass. $175.

volume control. Crossover at 175Hz with a third order filtering
rate. Perfect for the Quad - subwoofer combination. $225.
All are available for listening and pickup 30 miles north of NYC.
While some of the smaller speakers could be shipped, it would be
difficult to ship the very largest systems. Contact me at rgamusic
at bestweb.net if you wish to purchase a set or arrange to
come for a listen.
