CD1001 – The Appalachian String Band Music Festival Clifftop WV

"Ray Alden has done a superb job in assembling this 24-cut overview of old time string music today, as reflected by the groups who make the annual trek to a Mecca for the music in Clifftop, West Virginia. It includes many standouts, and I find myself going back repeatedly to tracks by the Ill-Mo Boys, Melvin Wine, the L-7s, Dan Gellert and Brad Leftwich. An all-around FINE job on this project." ......................................................................................Dave Freeman, County & Rebel records
"This is the REAL thing! All collectors of traditional music should have this one!" ........................................................................................................Disc Collector magazine, issue # 187
"Highly recommended! Especially fine for fiddlers and lovers of fiddle music."

CD1002 – Primitive Characters "The Leavin's"

"The Primitive Characters are a razor sharp banjo bangin', mountain style fiddle rubbing old time string band with a 1920s repertoire and a very modern sense of humor. This is old time music both authentic and contemporary, and a lot of FUN." .............................................Dirty Linen magazine Sandy Stark, fiddler for the Primitive Characters, is one of the unsung influential fiddlers of the string band revival. With their fun filled repertoire, potent rhythm and loose-as-a-goose singing, the Primitive Characters score high on the smile-O-meter."
................................................................................................Kerry Blech, Victory Review magazine
This CD is chock full of lovingly-played good old time favorites; the instrumentals are, without exception, bursting with energy and the vocals treated in a natural unaffected way. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Leavins over and over again, something I rarely do with contemporary old time music CDs. They play their old time music with a straightforward respect, depth and humor, and THEY GROVE LIKE CRAZY to boot! ...........................................................................Suzy Rothfield Thompson, Old Time Herald magazine

CD1003 – Roy Carrier & the Night Rockers "Offshore Blues & Zydeco"

"Roy Carrier's Night Rockers are the ass kickingest Zydeco band on the planet. Guaranteed to make you loose your mind out on the dance floor. With 20 tracks and every one a gem, the 72 minutes, excellent sound and killer talent here make this the CD for 1998." ............................................................................................................Andy Grigg, Real Blues magazine
"This CD makes you feel as though you are sitting right next to these musicians while they are playing! When Roy sings "I'm The One You Need", you feel he is singing directly to you. Roy is a master of the accordion in Creole, Zydeco, La-La, R&B and the blues. I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LOVE THIS IRREPRESSIBLE MUSICAL GUMBO!!" ..................Nancy Weston, Cajun News Letter
"DANCEABLE, RHYTHMIC, UNAFFECTED and FRESH."......Suzy Thompson, Old Time Herald
Roy Carrier carries it all off with aplomb and some VERY skilled accordion playing. This is definitely ABOVE average Zydeco!" ............................................Brian Peters, Folk Roots magazine

CD1005 – Ethnic Music "The World In Our Backyard"

"The World In Our Backyard was just awarded the HOT PLATTER award from among the thousands of CDs we carry in our catalog." .........................................................................................................David Kanistanaux, Sidestreet Music The ubiquitous Ray Alden, America's premier ethnographer-without-portfolio, has done it again! This time he's complied a delectable sampler of music from the ethnic neighborhoods in and around New York: Bulgarian wedding music with Yuri Yunakov, huayno music from Peru, some young guns of Irish music, and tunes from Jordan, Thailand, Portugal, Hungary, the Ukraine and elsewhere.
