Compact Discs
We have been involved with the recording of old
time music and bluegrass since 1966. Starting with field recordings,
first made at festivals such as Union Grove and the Galax Fiddler's
Convention, and later at the homes of musicians in the south. We
were fortunate then to have a Tandberg portable half-track and later
a Revox stereo tape deck with AKG D224E microphones. These recordings
are currently being issued on the Field Recorder's
Collective series of CDs.
In the mid-1970s an association began with Heritage
Records, leading to LPs such as the Young Fogies, Visits, Music
From Round Peak and Eight Miles Apart. While the first
two mentioned were anthologies, the last documented the differences
in repertoire between the Shelor and Kimble families, who lived
only eight miles apart.
Although these LPs are out-of-print, some have
now been licensed to Other labels,
such as Rounder, which allowed me to continue the Young Fogies
series, resulting in two volumes and extending into the two volume
American Fogies CDs.
Finally, I began my own label, Chubby
Dragon, which specializes in old time and traditional music
of various cultures. Here you will find anthologies such as the
Brandywine Mountain Music Convention, the Appalachian String Band
Festival and specific bands such as Brad Leftwich's super group;
the Humdingers. These recording use the most recent multi-track
digital recordings or professional digital re-mastering for great
sound quality. Have a look-see into each facet of all these recordings.
