Vermont's Electric Chair

1919 - 1954

 

In 1864, the State of Vermont was the first state to eliminate public hangings by legislating that all executions would be conducted at the State Prison in Windsor. 16 hangings were conducted there before they modernized their execution procedures by electrocuting George Warner on July 12, 1919.
