The Danbury Madhatters meet each Tuesday at 8PM in the Elks Lodge, 346 Main Street, Danbury, CT (Across from Fleet Bank).

How do I become a Madhatter?

It's pretty easy!
  1. Join us for a minimum of 3 rehearsal sessions within a 1 month period.
  2. Undergo a voice placement analysis to see which voice part you should be singing. (This is not an audition)
  3. Get music and/or learning tapes for 2 simple barbershop songs.
  4. Work on your own and with an assigned "buddy" to learn these songs.
  5. When you're ready (you can take as long as you want), see the Music Chairman to arrange for a private demonstration of your ability to sing your part for both songs. Perfection is not required, but we do need to insure that you have basic singing ability and are teachable, since harmonizing is a natural skill that most, but not all, can do.
  6. If the Director accepts your demonstration, your application will be presented to the Board of Officers for affirmation and acceptance of your dues payment. If the music Director thinks you need a bit more work, he will tell you which areas need improvement and show you how to strenghten your singing on these points. When you're ready to try again, see the Music Chairman about a new demonstration session. There is no limit to the number of demonstration attempts, ever!!

What does it cost to join?

For the first year, the dues contributions as follows:
International Society Dues $54.00
District Dues $15.00
Chapter Dues $15.00
New Member Setup (first year only) $7.00

Total for first year: $91.00. A number of payment options can be arranged. Some articles of costuming (approx. $50.00) will also need to be purchased if you wish to participate in public performances with the Chorus.

IT'S GREAT TO BE A BARBERSHOPPER!

If you become part of this great singing organization (incidentally, the world's largest for men!), you could sing in a chorus, take part in the administration, enjoy the fellowship, or best of all, sing in a quartet. All you need is a desire to sing. So why not join? You'll enjoy one of the greatest experiences of a lifetime-singing four part barbershop harmony.

We're sure you'll like it so well that you'll want to become a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) and join us in our efforts to

"KEEP THE WHOLE WORLD SINGING"

We sing for many organizations, community activities and entertain the less fortunate. In addition to performing our annual show, in competition with other chapters, we also enjoy backyard singouts.

Contact us for more information, we can't wait to hear from you!!
