The Funeral
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

[OOC: This'll hopefully be the one time I railroad you folks. If there's a massive problem, let me know...otherwise, just accept my apologizes.]

The day was damp, but not raining. Seattle's contaminated rain ran in droves off rooftops, inexplicably collecting there despite the lack of downfall.

It had been just three days since Alex had been shot, the .45 caliber bullet having penetrated his vest to puncture the heart as he'd crossed the street outside his club*. In the aftermath, many questions were asked, but precious few were answered.

It was this unfortunate event that had brought his former acquaintances together today at the lonely graveyard of the Church of St.Joseph.

It had been about a half hour now, since people began reading the eulogy. Someone with a literary bent seemed to have been friends with old Alex.

Even the most religious of the onlookers seemed to be showing signs of discontent, despite the generally pleasant surroundings of the church they were within.

As at last the guests began to file out, a man, oriental in appearance moves through the crowd toward your little group.

His movements aren't the finely tuned movements of the augmented warrior, but he has a certain grace and authority indicative of rank and position.

*The club was one of those on the fringe of being upper class, and had been frequented by the group on accounts of their casual friendship with Alex L. Omar, the man who owned it.
As the oriental man approaches
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

Maynard is going over the usual funeral rhetoric, "He had a good life, quite a crowd here, he really was a nice man, etc.", feeling quite uncomfortable in his suit, and even more uncomfortable in his surroundings. He pays little attention to the man, as he's already spoken with a seemingly endless line of mourners and assumes him to be yet another.
May we help you?
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

Veronica stepped aside to allow the crowd to file past, drawing the attention of the other two to the man, "Someone wants to say hello."

Silent Attention
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I complete my conversation with a slight acquaintance and turn to face the approaching stranger. I look over him carefully, trying to determine who he might be and why he is looking for one of us, if not all of us. I stand up straighter, trying to get the most of my 4'5" height and silently wait for him.
The Meeting?
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

He closes the distance quickly, his manner helping to part the crowd.

He is clad in a high quality black Armante suit, similar to those Veronica wears occasionally.

"My name is David Kell, I was an assistant to Mr. Omar; may we speak in private?"

With a gesture, he indicates the Church's front door, perhaps suggesting a walk through the grounds.

He speaks in a cool, unaccented voice, addressing all three of you. His tone indicates that he's used to being listened to, and the air of authority about him remains present.
A pleasure
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I give him a small formal bow, "It is a pleasure to meet you. I am sure we may speak in private, but could you give us one moment to ourselves so as to pay our final respects to Mr. Omar?"
Greetings
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

Veronica extends her hand with a slight inclination of the head, "Charmed, I'm sure. We will join you outside shortly."

She moves off toward the front of the church and the casket, following another brief nod in the direction of Mr. Kell.
Disengagement

I step back slightly, offering another, slighter, bow to Mr. Kell: "If you will pardon me, we shall be with you in a moment." I nod towards the door, then turn and join Veronica. I attempt to walk in such a manner as to keep both Mr. Omar and the door in sight.

OOC: I am unsure of how time works here. I would like to stop and wait for Maynard a slight distance away if it is appropriate to keep everything in sight as well as to indicate to Mr. Kell that the discussion has ended for the moment and he should make his exit. However, I do not know how to coordinate something like this.
At the casket...
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

Maynard gives Mr. Kell a lingering glance and joins the others at the casket. Speaking softly and looking down at Alex's face, he says, "That man...he's packing."
Departure
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

Mr. Kell returns the bow of Cyon and shakes the offered hand of Veronica, then departs through the front door without looking back.
Agreement
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I watch as Mr. Kell departs from the Church, and turn to the others over the casket. I glance down, although it is more over than down, at Mr. Omar and make a sign of respect. After a very slight pause, I respond:

"Yes, he is, but I don't think that is unusual for this area, especially as he certainly must fear for his own life. I do not see that as a direct reason to mistrust him more than we would anyone else. However, we must consider that he was either the one who has killed Mr. Omar, or has already been contacted by those who have."

I glance back at the door then speak quietly enough that I can barely be heard:

"We must join him quickly, but first I think we need to know the situation and what we will do. I do not think he can immediately make any move against us, if that is what he has plans for. There are too many people around and there is too much of an open area outside. However, I think we need to know what we are going to do if we get into a situation where we are alone with him, or others join him."

I sigh slightly, regretting that we had to have this time of respect interrupted like this, but then I look to Veronica and Maynard for comments.
Agreement
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

"I concur. Let us join him. There are still people about, not everyone has left yet, we are the safest right now."

Veronica reaches into the breast of her suit and insures her gun is loose in it's holster.

"Afterall, his interests may be benevolent."
Hesitation...
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

Maynard nods hesitantly. "All right...but let's try to get this over with quickly. And be careful."
Right then
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

"Well, gentlemen, shall we?"

If the reply is affirmative, Veronica heads for the Church's exit and steps outside.

If no, wait and listen to the reason for said response.
All right.
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

He follows Veronica.
Making our Exit
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

"We shall, I am ready" I join Veronica is making our exit. Once we step outside I immediately move away from her and the exit enough such that we cannot be surrounded or trapped in any way. I also look around to determine if there are any strangers other than Mr. Kell present, how far away the first location that could hide someone is, and where we could flee to safety should it become necessary.
Discussions
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

Mr. Kell is waiting to your right as you exit, but everyone else is on the brick walk, heading toward their cars.

He motions for you to begin following him as he heads south into the gardens.

"Mr. Omar hired me seven years ago, to serve as his.." Here he hesitates, as if searching for the correct word, "Assistant. As you may know, Mr. Omar had several enemies. In fact, we now know who had him shot."

"It is impossible to go through any official channels, as will become clear once you've learned more. But you three possess certain skills. And as late friends of his, would you be interested in a new career?"

He turns, surveying the gardens, then the cemetary, his back toward you.
Questions
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I look towards Veronica and Maynard, and then step to follow Mr. Kell. I respond carefully to his statements, "I am not sure what you mean by career change. I'm sure we are all very interested in finding out who has caused the death of our friend, and hopefully having justice done."

I join him, motioning for the others to follow me, but in slightly different positions around him.

"I would appreciate if we could 'learn more,' both about the killer(s) of Mr. Omar and about your relationship with him, if you don't mind my asking."
Listens...
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

Follows along, keeping a close eye on Mr. Kell, and listening for his replies to Cyon's questions.
You may ask.
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

He turns around, extending his hand, palm up, "Here, take this. It has been prepared for you."

A small optical chip is contained within the out stretched palm.

"It should clarify things. Let me know tonight."

He turns and walks away, heading up toward the path and out of site towards the parking lot.

...Mystified
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

Veronica steps forward and accepts the optical chip, "Thank you, I hope it is as comprehensive as you suggest."

She follows the man with her eyes as he passes out of sight.

"Well then, unless one of you has a date, I'd suggest we go take a look at this."

(OOC: How'd we all get here? What sort of cars do you two have? My character has a BMW-3400LS....I'm not sure how appropriate a semi is for a funeral, but if you have something else, who knows.)
Most peculiar...
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

** EDITED August 21, 2001, 5:23 pm **

Watches Kell until he disappears out of sight, then glances back at the church. "Alex...what did you get us into...?" Pulls out a cigarette and lights it up. "Well...let's play the disk."

(OOC: I suppose we all came together in your BMW. If not, my character rode his motorcycle.)
What indeed?
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

Veronica removes the tie from her hair and runs her hands through it (nervous habit), "What indeed? I thought I was through with all this when I left France." She notes the cigarette with a grimace, "How do you smoke those things?"

Sighs, "Well, let's go home and play the bloody disk. At least it's unlikely to make things less clear."

(OOC: Or all independently. Do you have a car, Cyon?)
Shall we
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I shake my head as he walks away, "What a strange exit to a strange man. I fear that many things will happen from such a short discussion. I suppose we should all return to one place to discuss what has happened, or more specifically what will happen when we review the contents of this disk."

I begin to pace, stopping when Maynard pulls out a cigarette, "However we get home, I hope I don't have to smell that thing." In a soft voice as in to an audience, "Talk about peer pressure here!"

I look to the parking lot where Veronica's BMW is parked then back at Veronica, "It would be appreciated if I could have a ride to wherever we are going. I do not have a car yet, although I'll be glad to drive yours anytime."
Going home?
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

Takes one last drag on the cigarette and then flicks it away. (To Veronica) "Whose place? Yours?"

(OOC: Lynx, do we need to sort out transportation, or just assume that there are enough seats for everyone, however we arrange it?)
Yes.
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

She turned back to the others, in the process of putting her hair back up, "All that remains is to determine just how strange a man he really is. There's something in the water, as they say."

"Where shall we go from here?" She turns and grins at Cyon, "I have the necessary equipment to view the disk, but I know how you can be when it comes to computers."

Location
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I smile but shake my head, "I may have some skills with computers and such, but with this disk I'm sure you are easily qualified to take care of everything. You are both very welcome to come to my apartment as always, or we can go to yours."
Alright then.
[edit] [delete]

Veronica Alder

Veronica begins walking back toward the path and her car, "If you don't mind, then, my place it is." She chuckles, "When in doubt, choose in favor of the home with nicer couches."

(OOC: At this point, I'm going to assume any discussion that goes on is while we're walking/in the car, unless anyone objects. I'll post a description of the building in a bit, but there's no reason not to talk in the car, I believe.)
Pardon? (To 'Hunk')

Lynx (Admin)

(OOC: Lynx, do we need to sort out transportation, or just assume that there are enough seats for everyone, however we arrange it?)

Care to restate?
Transportation.
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

(OOC: What I meant was, do we need to tell you which vehicles we take? Between a motorcycle that can seat two and Tomorrow's car, we shouldn't have trouble transporting three people around.)
Ahh...
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

Yes, you do.

Both because you cannot talk if you're not in the same vehicle (well, barring special arrangements) and because I'd like to know whether that Ares AGM took out everyone or just the decker. ;)
OOC
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

Is the drive in real time, or do you just decide when we arrive. I'm wondering since I might not around too much this evening and would like to have the chance to have a detailed conversation about how things will work between us. If it is real time based, the drive will be over before we can really talk. (Or at least before I can.)
Maynard
[edit] [delete]

Cyon

I join Veronica, then look at Maynard, "Maynard, how will you be joining us? Bike or Car?"
Take a ride...
[edit] [delete]

Maynard Evers (Hunk)

"I'll come with you guys...we'll have some time to talk. And I promise I won't smoke." Maynard grins.
No, not real time.
[edit] [delete]

Lynx (Admin)

You folks will arrive sometime tomorrow in reality, after conversation has died down a bit.
