F8 Crusader at the Intrepid
October 12, 1996
The Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum recieved a new exhibit in the form
of an F8K Crusader delivered by helocopter from the
U.S. Navy Air Warfare Center in Warminster, Pennsylvania.
Staff and volunteers rushed to move the
aircraft clear of the landing zone and secure it before the CH-47 returned
to land.
While the CH-47 was circling New York
Harbor, the staff and volunteers chocked and chained the Crusader to the
deck to prevent the rotor downwash of the helocopter from causing the plane
to move.
Once the aircraft was secure and the deck cleared of cable ties and loose
tools, the helocopter returned to land.
