Master Bath Renovation

This sophisticated master bath gives few clues to its humble origins as a small bedroom and hallway bath.  The expanded room is bolder, sleeker, sexier-- and very comfortable in its new life.

Among the inspirations for the look of the room were early-20th-century men's haberdasheries and the organized glamour of the Orient Express, and ambiance favored by the homeowners, who love to travel.  They wanted their bath to exude a masculine quality, but without any macho heavy-handedness.

The expansive space now includes a closed-off commode and a huge shower stall made of glass on three sides.  As couples frequently spend time in the bathroom together, we wanted to create a space two people could use comfortably at the same time.

We refinished the original maple floors and designed a mahogany cabinet unit that recalls a ship's storage bins-- or steamer trunk.  Counters of black concrete match the shower wall.  Two sinks sit at different heights for ease of use.
