123 Main Street Restoration
Annapolis, Maryland

The disastrous 1960's brick facade hides a sterling example of early 20th century commercial Main Street architecture.  Built as a furniture store/warehouse in 1905-8, this building features giant Tuscan order brick pilasters with stone bases and capitals, supporting a full entablature with denticulated cornice.

The rusticated first floor base, possibly limestone, frames generous sidewalk display windows and the store entrance.  The 1948 photograph shows the second and third floors in original form, but the first floor has undergone the first of many renovations.

This 1994 restoration study was done for a potential tenant and included interior adaptive reuse concepts.  The building is 27,000 sq. ft. on three floors with terrific potential for adaptive reuse.  The restoration of the Main Street front would make an important contribution to Annapolis and would return the use of the upper floors.
