And we must read it, if we can,

Pursuing it to Rivendell

Fleeing Riders on the way.

‘Twas at the Ford that Frodo fell—

What happens next? We cannot say.

All that is said does not matter,

Not all who post here are sane;

We do not reward idle chatter,

The loss is outweighed by the gain.

Soon eager new members shall line up,

And "Intimidate us!" they’ll plead.

O green grass! White wizards! O giant folk of arboreal kind!

O Book 3, Book 3! Shall we read of Hobbits’ escape

And racing hunters yet again, or skip to the Black Gate?

Trained in the law,

Fluent of maw,

Mind like a trap,

I make the Room clap.

In The Lord of the Rings

Are infinite things

I could write on all day

For years without pay.

My “Thoughts” are gold

Which never grow old.

Each Discussion year

I’ll always be near…

Do you ask me why?

‘Curious’ am I,

Biggest of head,

Wise, old, well read.

If you ever debate me

Do not under-rate me.

When seeking truth,

I’ll want to see proof;

But old Curious am I,

And I’ll never die.

The Return of the King - Book V

Over the site there sits a sad shadow

Webward reaching wings of fandom.

The Room reacts; to the realm of readers

Fear approaches. The Fanboys waken

For the moment comes of the Movie mavens;

At the thought of Jackson they thrill together

And hear of The Hobbit films a-hatching.

Who now will read it? Who shall remember

The tale of Bilbo before the blockbuster?

Gaily the gathering grabs for glamour

While weary wanderers wish for the time when

Lord of the Rings was loved for rich reading.

This Tale goes ever on and on

Far past Bag End where it began.

To older Ages comes bright dawn,

Let readers start the Sil who can!

Let new Discussions now arise,

But we at last in dimming light

With aching heads and tired eyes

Will bid the Reading Room goodnight.
