Reviews of the Encyclopedia
and the Diary

This diary was completed at the beginning of 2008. I expect to maintain it online for the foreseeable future. Of course the entries, like the Encyclopedia itself, will slowly become dated as Tolkien scholarship moves on. Any communications will be welcomed, and edits for accuracy will be performed on request. - squire, June 3, 2010
I began this diary in November 2006 to record my impressions as I browsed
the J. R. R. Tolkien Encyclopedia. This is not a discussion board,
but I invite interested readers to send comments or entries to
squire00@verizon.net. I reserve the right
to edit entries, but will delete or revise the result if asked. Subjectivity
is expected but so is brevity, decorum and moderation of expression.
I myself wrote the Encyclopedia
entries The East, The South, and The Treason of Isengard; and
I previewed or edited about two dozen other entries written by N. E.
Brigand (contributor of Dante and Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien), Entwife Wandlimb, Penthe, and my other colleagues
at the TheOneRing.net's
Reading Room
discussion forum. I will not be commenting on those entries, but will gladly
post reviews of them by others. - squire, Jan. 18, 2007
