What is Community Supported
Agriculture?
Community Supported Farms (also known as CSAs) are mutually beneficial arrangements between a farm and member families. They ensure a generous supply of fresh, high quality organic produce** to the consumer, while also providing a reasonable income for the farmer. And by directly supporting local farms, members help keep local agriculture profitable & sustainable.
How does it work?
The harvest season runs for 30 weeks, from late May through December. Member families join with the farmer and pay in advance for a share of the season's harvest. Working shareholders also contribute 10 hours helping to plant the crops and gather the harvest (Non-working shares available at additional cost). Once harvests start members pick up their share weekly at the farm. The type of produce available will vary throughout the season, and since each harvest is distributed equally among all members, the amount provided each week will fluctuate. Shares generally average around 10 pounds per week of at least 10 different vegetables & herbs.
