In the following, we offer a selection of open courseware on the internet,
and tentative procedures for the secure storage of their downloaded files.

 

 

Video Players       

* Most downloaded videos work well on Real Player, obtained from: http://www.realplayer.com/

 * Most also work with QuickTime Player, obtained  from:  http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/   

 

Windows Minimum Requirements

 * Pentium processor PC

 * At least 128 MB of RAM

 * Windows XP Service Pack 2 or VISTA

To store course-lecture video: double-click desired video;
   *  point mouse in upper right corner of screen;
   *  click “download this video;”
   *  wait for download to complete;
   * using Explore, find course in  desktop/user name/Videos/Real Player Downloads;
   * copy desired video from Real Player Downloads to portable Flash Drive or DVD.
                                   
 
When disconnected from internet,
  * on computer, read from Flash Drive or DVD; double click desired video, sending to video player.

      * Click “open Stanford on iTunes U” (upper right);
      * click “see all” in upper right of “Stanford courses;”     

 

To store course-lecture video: double click course;
 *  select lecture; double-click “get movie”;
 *  wait for download (rotation symbol) to complete;
 *  Using Explore, find lecture in  desktop/username/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic/Movies
 *  copy selected lecture (by copy and paste) to portable Flash Drive or DVD.

 

 When disconnected from internet,
  * on computer, read from Flash Drive or DVD; double click desired video, sending to video player.
  * or show DVD via DVD player and TV

 *  click “open”;  video will start in Real Player;
 *  point mouse to upper right of screen;
 *  click “download this video;”
 *  wait for download to complete;
 *  using Explore, find lecture in desktop/user name/Videos/RealPlayer Downloads;
 *  copy desired video from Real Player Downloads to portable Flash Drive or DVD.


When disconnected from internet

  * pick a lecture; double-click a bandwidth;
  * select “save;” select Documents;
  * wait for download to complete;
  *  using Explore, copy desired video from Documents to portable Flash Drive or DVD.
