Editors

Become an expert in either vim or emacs.

Just like your typing, your editor should not get in the way of your coding. Searching, replacing, formating - these should occur as second nature.

Why pick vim or emacs? Several reasons:

• They are both extremely powerful editors. After you've learnt how to use one of them, you'll find that there is almost nothing you can't do with just a few keystrokes.
• They are available on almost all platforms. This means that you won't have to learn another editor just because you've shifted OSes.
• They don't need a mouse. An editor which requires a mouse slows you down - you have to keep shifting one hand from your keyboard to your and back.
