Sixty Years
is a multimedia work for my sotware program Lev,
video, and electronic sounds. In this piece, two pre-recorded video
streams are combined with a live video of the performer. In this way, the
performer's movements are blended dynamically with the pre-recorded videos,
and thus become and integral part of the performance. Lev
tracks the performer's gestures and maps them to specific pitches and scales,
as well as video parameters such as zoom, rotation, and chromakeying. As
the piece progreses, Lev reads through a score
(created in advance), that determines what pitches or scales, and video parameters
will be avaliable for gestural control at any given point in the piece.
The videos contain
images from Hiroshima after the 1945 atomic bombing, and from Abu Ghraib.
The title of the piece refers to the passage of time between 1945 and the
present.
