Here's another of the many special places we visit on our
One-Week Caribbean Cruises...

Green Cay, British Virgin Islands
The BVI have the safest and most beautiful waters for sailboat cruising and for developing your sailing and cruising skills. We're just a short hop southeast of Florida, a quick sail from Puerto Rico, and just a stone's throw away from St. Thomas and St. John in the US Virgin Islands.
And here's your floating home...

Rafiki's Main Salon

Rafiki Beating Upwind on Starboard Tack
beating upwind – sailing toward the wind
starboard tack – wind from the starboard (right) side of the boat, sails on the port (left) side
Rafiki is a beautiful,
safe, comfortable, and easy-to-sail sloop. She has a
hull so secure that you could cross the ocean. Her huge diesel engine can take
over at any time and her significant
keel makes her a
“stiff” boat…which means she
heels less and is more
comfortable to sail than other boats her size.
sloop - a boat with one mast and two
sails: mainsail and jib
hull – the basic outer
structure/material of a boat
keel – weighted fin at the bottom of
the hull
heel – leaning over of a boat due to
the wind force
helm – steering wheel (or tiller on other boats)
anchoring system – the anchor plus chain
winch – a rotating cylindrical devise used to assist with ship's lines
hoist – to pull up a sail on a line (sailors never say "rope")
galley – that place where all of the delicious cooking originate
bow – the front of the boat
stern – the rear of the boat
