Discernment Committee for Congregational Growth

In 2007, the Vestry of our church formed a Discernment Committee for Congregational Growth. The purpose of this committee was to consider the issues surrounding how the congregation has grown and may continue to grow, and what growth means for St. A's. For example, would we want to alter our physical space, add new services, or adjust service schedules? Following the growth that has occurred in our congregation over the past few years, there are now:

  • 127 registered households
  • 313 parishioners
  • 64 children enrolled in our Sunday School
The committee met for several months, studying the problem and seeking the views of the congregation in order to complete its work. During church services in late September 2007, members of the committee introduced their mission and work thus far to the congregation. Their statements are available here: Following the presentations, they distributed a Parish Survey to collect data on the congregants' concerns and opinions on the subject of future growth. We thank everyone who took the time to complete and return the survey, as well as those who came to the subsequent informal parish meetings and dinners to verbally express their views on the issues surrounding growth.

On Sundays April 20 and 27, 2008, the Discernment Committee posted presentation boards in the Fellowship Hall, outlining their preferred solutions to our current situation of overcrowding. Parishioners' written comments on the various options were solicited and turned over to the Vestry to consider in making their decision on how to proceed. The Vestry is expected to make their decision regarding our future plans in June, for implementation by the end of Summer 2008.

Our thanks again for your support of this discernment.

If you have any questions, please contact Father Brad or any member of the vestry.
