Georgia's Electric Chairs
Georgia:
2 electric chairs. The first was used from 1924-1964. The second was built in
the seventies and used from 1983-1998. Electrocution was declared
unconstitutional by the Georgia Supreme Court in 2001.
Georgia's
original electric chair at Reidsville is still in place on the now vacant fifth
floor of the Georgia State Penitentiary. The one at the Georgia
Diagnostic Classification Center near Jackson is stored in a closet, not on
display.
