A fishing permit (available in many sporting goods stores) and a reservoir permit (obtained from the NYC Dept of Environmental Protection up in Carmel) open up a whole new world. You can fish or just enjoy hiking the property. There are all sorts of birds to watch, and for a photographer, the place is a paradise.

For those who are tempted to trespass without the required permits- DON'T! Fines are steep and "fish cops" are vigilant.
