Greasy Diner Blues Self Determination
Eyes in the Mirror Ain't No Justice

GREASY DINER BLUES
Its the 24-7
Little slice of heaven
Coffee's always boilin'
Meat just might be spoilin'
Fill me up
Clean me out
Greasy diner blues!

SELF DETERMINATON

I have tried to live my life
By the dreams that others set me
Tried to make my mind up
That I would fit their mold
But now the mold is cracking
Today the masks are slipping
Come hell or high water
Its me I've got to be.

Well maybe I'm too corny
And maybe I'm too simple
Giving people the benefit
Of a multitude of doubts
But if you live your life protecting
Yourself from the next heartache
You find the cost of safety
Is being all alone.

I'm gonna learn to smile
Forgive myself my errors
Strive to be kinder
Strive to be free
Be nice to the child
Who still lives deep within me
Let her have the chance she wants
To live her crazy dreams.

Note: This works really well to the tune of Kenny Roger's THE GAMBLER....

EYES IN THE MIRROR
I.

You can't run
From the face in the mirror.
No matter where you go
It follows accusingly.
The eyes speak of lost chances
Of futures launched stillborn
The consequence of actions without thought.
And the face in the mirror
Is more bitter everyday
There's no tuning back the
Hourglass for me.
The waste of Time and Talent
Is graven now in stone
And the walls of the mirror prison
Hold me fast.
Dreams of all the could-have-beens
Stare out from pale green eyes
The self I've tried to run from
All these years.
But though the face grows older
It follows, curses still
And taunts me with its visions
Of dead dreams.
But no matter how you wish it
No matter how you lie
There's something in those eyes
That will not die.
And the dreamer goes on dreaming
And the marcher muddles on
And though things get no better
Still she dreams and writes her songs
And the eyes in the mirror
They tempt they taunt they dance
But the marcher is too weary
And fears to take the chance.

II.

She can't run
From the face in the mirror
Though the temptation
It grows stronger every day.
The haunted eyes stare back at her
Accusing, full of hate
The eyes remember dreams that she has killed.
And though she break the mirror
The eyes they do not die
For they themselves are mirrors of her soul.
Inside this mortal failure
Lives a spirit which won't die
And the dreamer marches on despite herself.
The eyes follow forever
They do not allow escape
The prison is her mind
The bars her fear.
Too afraid to face success she lets herself be beat
And the eyes do not forgive
Forsaken chances.
The face, it grows older
The eyes are veiled in pain
But still the dreamer tries to run away.

III.

Every morning in the mirror
She has to face those eyes
Confront the destiny that she has sold
But today she finally meets the eyes
Today the running ends.
She smiles at the mirror and decides.
Though she can never turn Time back
The road branches ahead
And she picks the path
That leads into the sun.
And the dreamer goes on dreaming
And the eyes they follow her
But the face in the mirror
Shines with Hope.
Believe in the dreamer
For she goes marching on
Its not too late for you to win your dream.
You only need to face yourself-
Admit to who you are-
Your own best ally not an enemy.
So meet the eyes in the mirror
Take a last good long look
Then never once look back on where you've been.
Keep on looking forward
Keep following your dreams
Shackles only exist within your mind.
You only have to want it
And believe that it is so
And the eyes in the mirror set you free.
The face in the mirror breaks your chains.
The eyes in the mirror
Set you free.

AIN'T NO JUSTICE
One lawyer with a briefcase can often steal more
Than the meanest desperado or the sweetest scamming whore.
Its not so much your money that the bad ones will take,
Its the faith you placed within them and your trust they're bound to break.
For these sharks are swimming waters that are fouler than a sewer,
Cause our system is perverted and the good guys all get skewered.

Well there ain't no justice, son
She's just a pretty myth
A bimbo in a blindfold
Bought with the highest bid
So if you're countin' on the system
And you're playin' by the rules
May as well just bend over
Cause you're gonna get screwed.

No there ain't no justice
She's a wicked twisted lie
You might as well seek reindeer
In a snowy Christmas sky.
She's a story told to children
She's a mass placating tale
Take it from an ex-believer
Who has seen sweet Justice fail.

If you've got an honest lawyer its a disability,
For if the other side's dishonest, it is doomed that you will be.
Those who live within in the rules and try to play it fair
Are bound to take a beating from the ones who do not care.
You can try to beat the devil at his own well scripted game
But the price of your integrity is winding up insane.

No there ain't no justice
She's a wretched sordid tart
If you stake your life upon her
She's bound to break your heart
So steer far clear of lawyers
Avoid the courts at all costs please
I'd rather keep my sanity
Than get rich on legal fees!
