Our Irish Honeymoon

Kevin and I got married on Saint Patrick's Day, so the only logical place to spend our honeymoon was Ireland.

We stayed two nights at Dromoland Castle in County Clare while I learned to drive on the wrong side of the road. Actually, I figured out a nifty trick to keep my bearings: The centerline is always on the driver's side of the car, no matter where you go (because the driver sits on the right in Ireland & Britain).

We visited Bunratty Castle and folk park, which has a traditional Irish village with thatched roof cottages & so forth. Dinner was a medieval banquet at the castle, which has been restored to look as it did in medieval days. Its furnished with period antinques. We got to hear a celtic harp and traditional celtic music and had a great time. Then we drove to County Galway, where Kev's family is from, and took a ferry to the Aran Islands. Its an ocean going ferry, and lets just say I was so green I could have marched in the St. Paddy's Day parade at home!

Back on the mainland, we drove cross-country to Kells, where Kev's family live now. They have a mushroom farm. At the dinner table there were 15 or so Coynes, with 12 cameras between them, none of whom wanted their picture taken! From Kells, we went to Dublin, walked O'Connell Street, visited the museums, and saw the Book of Kells at Trinity College Library. Flew home from Dublin Airport...
